HiBean v1.5.3: Custom Protocol Devices and Better Roasting Workflows

This release focuses on custom device setup, green bean discovery, roasting assistance, and automation stability. HiBean now lets users configure devices that use the TC4 or Modbus RTU protocol from the manufacturer's protocol documentation, then verify the configured read and control capabilities before use.

Released on: 2026-08-21 · Stable build 1.5.3+180

Highlights

  • Custom protocol devices: Configure transport, status fields, and control mappings for TC4 or Modbus RTU devices.
  • Verified setup flows: Complete reads, consecutive baselines, control proof, profile import/export, and existing-device editing.
  • Green bean discovery: Browse the bean library, open read-only details, import candidates, and explore community bean discovery.
  • Roasting assistance: Added holographic roast guidance, stage prompts, and second-crack / drop-temperature prediction.
  • Connection and compatibility improvements: Added device support and improved discovery, serial, BLE, and automation-preview flows.

1. Custom TC4 and Modbus Device Setup

TC4 and Modbus RTU are user-configurable protocol workflows in this release, rather than fixed device models.

TC4 Protocol

  • Configure Socket, WebSocket, BLE, Classic Bluetooth SPP, or serial transport according to the device.
  • Configure the status command, message delimiter, and status-frame fields.
  • Map BT, ET, heater, and other fields to HiBean device capabilities.
  • Configure control commands, allowed ranges, steps, test values, safe values, and feedback fields.

Modbus RTU Protocol

  • Configure serial parameters and Modbus read items from the device register map.
  • Configure data types, temperature fields, control registers, and feedback registers.
  • Set control ranges, steps, test values, and safe restore values.
  • Read the feedback after a write to confirm that the device responds with the expected value.

Both protocol workflows require connection verification, read verification, and a baseline on the current device. Every enabled control also requires its own control proof. Imported profiles provide initial configuration values only; they do not contain device identity, runtime state, or validation credentials.

2. Green Bean Library and Community Discovery

  • Added searchable green bean directory and candidate-import flows.
  • Added read-only platform bean details including merchant, origin, processing method, variety, and physical metrics.
  • Users can import a platform bean into their own library while keeping inventory and personal notes under their control.
  • Added a community bean discovery entry for curated beans, roast plans, and related information.

Platform beans and personal bean records remain separate. Importing a platform bean does not overwrite existing inventory or personal edits.

3. Roasting Assistance and Stage Prediction

  • Added a Roasting Assistance entry under Settings.
  • Holographic Roast Guidance can show T0, T1, and marble-pattern stage prompts on the live chart.
  • Profiles can configure second-crack and drop-temperature prediction.
  • Stage prompts and temperature prediction support operator judgment; they do not automatically control heater, fan, or other device parameters.

4. Automation Preview and Runtime Stability

  • Improved rule grouping, trigger markers, and actions in historical roast-curve replay.
  • Automation Preview can be opened from Profile creation.
  • Fixed automation timing after Charge so evaluation uses the rebased roast-relative sample.
  • Runtime logs distinguish physical device control from in-app record actions more clearly.
  • Improved paired BLE discovery, serial connections, disconnect recovery, and device error handling.

5. Device Support and Reference Data

  • Added or improved support for Smola R300, Hamid H7s, and Kaleido M2 Lite.
  • Added a Modbus configuration preset for the YOSHAN DY/SD series.
  • Added origin data for the Philippines, Timor-Leste, Sri Lanka, Laos, the Dominican Republic, and Saudi Arabia.
  • Improved green bean image recognition, image zooming, and TTS usage display.
