Using the Same Device Across Platforms (Why Bluetooth Needs Re-Setup)

If you added a device on one platform (or it synced from the cloud) and then see “Bluetooth not configured”, “Not configured”, or a prompt to update the Bluetooth identifier on another platform, this is usually expected — not a hardware failure.

This page explains why, and how to fix it quickly.

Why do I need to configure Bluetooth again on another platform?

Different operating systems can assign different “identifiers” to the same Bluetooth device (also influenced by privacy and OS limitations). To keep connections reliable, HiBean stores a separate Bluetooth identifier per platform.

So:

  • Your device can sync to a new platform (you can see it in the device list)
  • But the new platform may not have the correct Bluetooth identifier yet, so HiBean asks you to configure it

When does this happen?

  • You sign in on a new phone/PC and your device list syncs from the cloud
  • You added the device on platform A, then want to use it on platform B

Typical UI messages:

  • Connection status shows: Bluetooth not configured
  • A dialog asks to: Update Bluetooth Identifier
  • In device settings, the connection shows: Not configured

  1. Open HiBean → go to Devices → open the target device.
  2. Go to the device Settings page.
  3. Find Connection Type / Connection Settings:
    • If you need to switch methods, select the target method in Connection Type first
    • Open Connection Settings and follow the configuration flow (e.g., scan and pick the device)

After that, the device should connect normally on this platform (usually a one-time setup).

Note: If you want to switch connection types (BLE/SPP/Serial/Wi‑Fi) or configure from device settings, use the guide below.

Update Connection Settings (switch / re-configure)

Alternative: Configure from Device Settings

  1. Open the device detail page → Settings.
  2. Find Connection Type / Connection Settings.
  3. Select the correct connection method (BLE / Classic Bluetooth / Serial) and complete configuration.

Windows Note (Classic Bluetooth / SPP)

If the device uses SPP (Classic Bluetooth Serial) on Windows:

  1. Complete Windows system pairing first.
  2. Then bind/connect in HiBean.

macOS Note (Classic Bluetooth / SPP)

If the device uses SPP (Classic Bluetooth Serial) on macOS:

  1. When binding/updating the Bluetooth identifier, keep the device discoverable/pairable (otherwise the list may be empty).
  2. If pairing prompts appear (PIN / numeric confirmation), follow the prompts to complete pairing.
